MommyMandy asked:
Hi, my daughter is 7 1/2 months old but shes been doing this since about 4 months. While shes sleeping at night, I hear her on the monitor and it sounds like shes moaning and pouting in her sleep. There has been times where she cries hysterically and I go rushing in her room to see her sleeping, but yet shes till crying. Usually a rub on the forehead seems to help.
Has anyone elses little ones done this and if so, what is this from? I thought of night terrors, but come one, shes 7 months old!
Thanks for any helpful information!

My daughter has been doing this since her 2month shots… (shes almost 4 mo now)
My baby has done the same thing since she was little bitty. She’ll cry, moan and even laugh in her sleep. I’ll check on her and find her sound asleep. It’s nothing to worry about, most likely just a dream. all you can really do is try to comfort her if you can. I was told once that it may be them remembering traumatic experiences, such as birth or shots, or for males…circumsicion.
my 6 month old does this also, but usually only a couple times a month. And usually all i have to do is touch her or pick her up and she stops, and yes, she is still sleeping also. I would love to find out why, i just figured maybe her teeth were hurting or something!
It’s not night terrors, but the immature infant brain which does not have the ability to regulate and separate the different sleep levels (eg REM and deep sleep).
Babies are noisy sleepers anyway. Also, she may have a bit of anxiety causing her crying, but I wouldn’t worry. If you rock or nurse her to sleep, then put her to bed, she may wake somewhat and look for you. Just let her know you are there (the rub on the forehead sounds good).
Good Article! I like this post. thank for your sharing … very helpfull for me :)
I’m glad I discovered your write-up. I would never have made sense of this subject on my own. I’ve read several other articles on this subject, but I was confused until I read yours.
