Well, in case you find it difficult to sleep, make sure you have the contoured sleep mask that improves your sleeping pattern. Basically a sleep mask is made out of soft cloth that helps in cutting off the light and leading to soft sleep.

Usually, it is seen that disturbed sleep pattern is caused due to irregular work schedules that leads to poor sleep and as a result, one faces lack of sleep. For many of us, light can be a distracting source that does not allow a healthy sleep. For a healthy and sound sleep, darkness is essential as it leads to the production of melatonin hormone that is secreted by the pineal glands of brain.

While the exact numbers are not known it is thought that several million people lose sleep every night because of restless leg syndrome. The exact cause of this frustrating and painful condition is not exactly known but the majority of studies done point to some form of brain chemistry problem. For the people who suffer from it finding a restless leg syndrome treatment is at the forefront of their needs.

It is classified as a neurological disorder that causes a crawling or tingling sensation along the upper legs that makes those who suffer its effects feel an uncontrollable urge to get up and move around to find relief. The sensations are often described as if an insect or something is crawling just under the skin of the legs, along with burning and tugging sensations. These sensations can be merely annoying all the way to excruciating pain.

When it comes to a restless leg syndrome treatment there are two basic approaches; the natural holistic route or using over-the-counter drugs and prescription medications. They are both effective at relieving restless leg syndromes symptoms depending on the severity.

Natural Treatments for Restless Leg Syndrome

The primary symptom of needing to get up and walk around works for the majority of people who have this disorder. Unfortunately the symptoms most often appear in the evening or just as the person is falling asleep causing them to lose sleep and suffer many sleepless nights. For these people a more permanent treatment is needed.

People with mild to moderate symptoms are recommended to make certain lifestyle changes which are shown to help with the symptoms. Stopping the use of alcohol, tobacco, and caffeine is the first recommendation followed by dietary changes that include supplements to offset deficiencies of iron folate and magnesium. In fact there is a growing consensus that an iron deficiency may be one of the causes of RLS.

Heat applied to the legs by taking a warm bath, using a heating pad or hot water bottle, or massaging a liniment such as Icy/Hot are all good ways to increase blood flow to the legs. Increased blood circulation to the affected areas provides soothing relief of the symptoms.

Sleep disorders in children are more common than is realized by most people, in fact around 42% of children in the US suffer from sleep disorders in one form or another. For instance sleep apnea is recognized as a common disorder amongst children of all age groups, with the most affected being the 3 to 6 years old. Figures show that in the US there are between 1.4 to 2 million children who suffer from sleep apnea alone.

Some different sleep disorders in children, including sleepwalking and bruxism:

* One common sleep disorder in children is sleepwalking also known as somnambulism, this is generally harmless if special care is taken to provide a safe sleeping environment. Sleeping children can some times be heard talking in their sleep or sleep with their eyes open, and strange as these disorders seem, will not harm the child most of the time.

* Sleep disorders in children may also take the form of Bruxism which is a destructive habit of grinding and gnashing the teeth while they are asleep, this can be a very disturbing disorder that can also cause dental problems. Children also often bang their heads or roll their heads, this usually happens when they are about to fall asleep. Again this is another sleep disorder that is usually harmless and they will soon outgrow it, before becoming teenagers.

* Other sleep disorders in children include nocturnal asthma and nocturnal seizures that are often very scary and stressful for everyone, including the child and parents, and needs medical treatment to get it under control. Also, sleep apnea can attack children, including premature newborns and also, the elderly.

* Yet another problem is heartburn which can be dangerous and although not seen as a sleep disorder can often run along side some of the common sleep disorders in children. The danger arises in the sleeping children when stomach acids regurgitates into the throat, whilst this can be due to an underlying medical problem it can also be eating food to close to bed time.

RLS, also known as restless leg syndrome is also a disorder that children can suffer from which is very stressful and irritating, this ailment can help to bring on nightmares, sleepwalking and insomnia.

A few of the sleep problems mentioned above can cause or lead to ALTE which is another name for Apparent Life Threatening Event, which is where a child looks lifeless, limp and pale in color. With this particular sleep problem it will be quite hard to wake the child and once awake they may be very listless, this is not a very nice experience for all involved.

However, the most scary and probably the least understood of the sleep disorders in children is SIDS or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, unfortunately there aren’t many if any treatments available for this disorder.

The typical signs of gastro esophageal reflux disease include regurgitation and heartburn, but can also be seen as pains in the chest, dry coughing, reactive respiration difficulties, painful swallowing, indigestion and a sensation of something lodged in your throat. Gastro esophageal reflux disease, known in layman’s terms as acid reflux, is a chronic, distressing and discomforting medical ailment negatively influencing one’s quality of life. Over time, ignoring GERD can mean degeneration into serious complications like ulcers and Barrett’s esophagus, as well as a cancer that starts off in glandular tissue, and that is called adenocarcinoma.

In published research in 1997 in the Gastroenterology journal, Locke, Talley and Fett showed that acid reflux symptoms happen weekly to up to 20% of people. Prevalence of 30% to 40% was shown for the general public by further research. This indicates that gastro esophageal reflux disease is a widespread scourge in developed western society, especially in the US. About 60% of individuals have GERD symptoms once per month or more.

Gastro esophageal reflux disease is a medical conundrum with complex etiology, meaning that it is brought on by several factors, both inner and outer. Direct contributing factors are: debilitation of the LES (lower esophageal sphincter) muscle which causes stomach juices to travel back from the digestive system to the esophagus with an excess of stomach acidity.

Substandard diet plans can put undue stress and workload on the digestive system, when the system is trying to operate properly to prevent surplus acidity or back flow of contents. Aging also worsens the problem as general relaxing of all muscles including the LES means that acid reflux is among the difficulties that are heightened, as a person gets older. Several hidden causes also provoke acid reflux condition in addition to these other more visible physiological factors. Diet and lifestyle have a direct or indirect influence, as do genetic characteristics, which then shape the context in which GERD develops. As an example, specific foodstuffs have been pinpointed as weakening the LES and being directly responsible for acid reflux.

Solutions for Acid reflux can be classified in three main ways: surgical operation, cures by medicaments and all natural holistic programs.

Surgery for GERD targets local repair of the malfunctioning LES. The operation consists of wrapping the gastric fundus (parts of the stomach) around the bottom of the esophagus so that the natural valve can be reinforced between the stomach and the esophagus. In this way refluxed content from the stomach is prevented from meeting the esophagus. Surgery for acid reflux has significant drawbacks: after operation, complications such as difficulty in belching, dysphagia, diarrhea and flatulence are all possible. Death can also follow in 1 in 1,000 patients even though the mortality rate is relatively low.

Medications of GERD have been designed to bring temporary relief by targeting the ailments of the digestive system that are related to acid reflux. For instance, antacids have been designed to neutralize esophageal acidity, while Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs) inhibit the stomach cell mechanism that generated acid in the stomach. Regrettably, many medicaments only tackle GERD symptoms, and the underlying causes are simply ignored. The effect of acid reflux medications is only temporary and a long-term dependency is often created while the real reasons for gastro esophageal reflux disease go unchecked. GERD medications used for the long term also cause numerous secondary effects.

Many medical studies published over the last decade have pointed to the use of several all-natural holistic protocols to positively deal with gastro esophageal reflux disease and even allow for full restoration of health. Solutions in these programs include; elevation of the head of the bed by six inches, reducing the eating of fat, quitting smoking, stopping alcohol intake, weight loss, elimination of toxins and eradicating parasites, as well as avoiding eating large meals or food that weakens the LES.

Holistic treatments can bring amazing positive changes to your well being and quality of life. Did anyone tell you? There is an all-natural holistic solution to stop gastro esophageal reflux disease and effectively and safely keep GERD away from you.

When you list all the possible sleep disorders children can be prone to, it seems amazing that they find any sleep at all. Some disorders are obviously worse than others are, but all have one common denominator: parent anxiety.

As parents, who hasn’t undergone the trauma of bringing home their new born son or daughter from the hospital and stood over them as they slept? Or waking up in the middle of the night to check that they are still breathing. A healthy baby sleeping perfectly well can sometimes be as nerve wrecking as a problematic one. When problems to children’s sleeping patterns occur, however, more action is needed.

Parents need to learn the symptoms of each particular sleep disorder to learn what the best course of action is. Here follows the main problems your children could face at one time or another:

Nightmares and night terrors

If nightmares can abruptly wake an adult in the middle of the night drenched in sweat and absolutely certain what they have dream is true, what do you imagine a child goes through? Nightmares and their even worse cousin night terrors, are the most common form of interrupting your child’s sleep. Although they are not a serious threat to the health of your children they can sometimes cause other problems like bed-wetting, mood swings, or the child refusing to go to bed when told. Try to resist the temptation of allowing them to sleep in your bed, as this can cause a negative routine that will be very difficult to crack later on.

Sleepwalking/talking

It can be quite disconcerting (and sometimes downright scary) to see your child sleepwalking. It happens to more children than you would have thought possible but is quite harmless if precautions are taken to ensure the child’s environment is safe. This means picking up their toys before bedtime (or even better teaching them to pick up their toys before bedtime) and locking and bolting all windows and doors. Installing a security gate at the top of the stairs is another good idea.

A child talking in their sleep or sleeping with their eyes open is a pretty strange thing to see but like sleepwalking is completely harmless and usually disappears when the child gets older.

Bruxism

Bruxism is a problem children have with their teeth while they are asleep. They grind and gnash their teeth sometimes very loudly. The sufferer is not usually awoken by it although they could bite the side of their tongue once in a while. Parents are the ones usually kept awake by this disorder and the child may develop dental problems if it continues for an extended period of time. That said, it is just one more disorder in children that they will eventually grow out of.

Bed-wetting

Perhaps the most common sleep disorder found in children. Many experts believe that answer to bed-wetting is to get the child into the routine of going to the toilet and not allowing them to drink too much before bedtime. Some parents get up in the middle of the night and take the sleeping child to the bathroom (I do), while others opt for the use of diapers. On no account should the child be punished for wetting their bed as this just leads to anxiety and the problem could get worse. If the problem persists then parents should go to see their doctor.

Sleep apnea

Sleep apnea can effect people of all ages, including children. The victim actually stops breathing during sleep and as many as fifty times a night. Although it is quite common, for a parent there is nothing more terrifying than seeing this happen to their child. Loud snoring is usually the first sign of sleep apnea. If you suspect your child to be suffering from sleep apnea you are wise to go to the doctor as soon as possible to begin treatment.

Sudden infant death syndrome or cot death

By far the most dangerous sleep related ailment among children. Despite the vast amount of research being done in the United Sates and Europe, very little is known about it. Hundreds of babies die each year from SIDS and is without doubt the number cause for concern among parents today.

Many people have touted the effectiveness of herbal remedies to alleviate anxiety and panic attacks. However, when it comes to using alternative methods for treating health-related matters, it’s useful to understand the advantages and disadvantages.

Although many users have claimed that herbal remedies for anxiety can be as highly effective as psychotropic medications and without causing any side effect, these methods have not been approved by the FDA as there is still lack of scientific evidence. Most of the positive results are based on users’ experiences. And different people may also experience different experience.

If you have decided to try herbal remedies for anxiety and panic attacks; we suggest you to inform your doctor first. Ask your doctor to share his or her thoughts on alternative methods for treating anxiety. If you’re currently taking any prescribed medication or other herbal remedies,  you also must inform your doctor about it.

Informing and communicating with your doctor is a necessary precaution to avoid undesirable result especially if you’re currently under a medical prescription. This is to ensure that the herbal remedies you’ll be taking do not interact negatively with your medications. Interaction of medications can produce undesirable side effects and can be dangerous to your health as well.

Some of the popular herbal medications for alleviating anxiety and panic attacks include:

• Saint John’s Wort

This herb has been used for centuries to treat mental disorders and as a sedative as well. It acts as a mood stabilizer as well as an antidepressant. For those who suffer anxiety disorder, this herb can be taken everyday to help balance your stress levels and help manage your feelings or moods more effectively. You need to this herb for at least a month before you begin to see improvement.

One disadvantage of St. John’s Wort herb is that it may interact with some drugs. The herb may speed or slow a drug’s breakdown.

• Valerian

A soothing herb that has long been used for sleep disorders and anxiety, this can be taken at bedtime or at any time of the day when you are beginning to feel a little anxious. This herb has also been used for depression, headaches and irregular heartbeat.

A known disadvantage of valerian is that it may cause some mild side effects such as dizziness, stomach upset, and feeling fatigue in the morning.

• Passion Flower

Passion Flower is a natural plant-based supplement that is used as a mild sedative and sleep aid. It also helps to reduce restlessness, anxiety, and nervousness.

Passion Flower has a disadvantage of causing allergic reaction. Some symptoms of allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. Seek medical attention if you think you’ve an allergic reaction from this herb.

• Chamomile

This herb is effective for treating anxiety, sleeplessness and gastrointestinal conditions such as upset stomach and diarrhea. Chamomile is also used topically to treat mouth ulcers. There is a reason why chamomile tea is used before bed. It helps to soothe your stress and manage your anxiety.

Disadvantage: There are reports of rare allergic reactions in people who come into contact with chamomile herbs. Some of the symptoms include skin rashes, throat swelling and shortness of breath.

The above is by no means the complete list of herbal remedies for anxiety and panic attacks. They are just some popular herbs or natural supplements used to alleviate anxiety, stress and panic attacks.
