Acting out one’s dreams in a violent manner may indicate the onset of a neurodegenerative disorder, such as dementia or Parkinson’s Disease. Mayo Clinic researchers along with other international researchers have found through their extensive studies a correlation between violent REM sleep and future neurodegenerative diseases.

This REM sleep disorder appears to occur mostly in older males, they have been known to strike their bed partner in a violent manner, sometimes causing significant injury. They have no recollection of the incident the following morning, nor do they recollect any dream which may have triggered the violence.

Although the correlation between violent REM sleep disorder and later dementia has been found by researchers, this does not indicate that having the sleep disorder definitely indicates later dementia.

Next to extreme tiredness during the daytime hours, loud snoring is one of the most common symptoms of sleep apnea. However those who snore do not necessarily suffer from sleep apnea. Making the distinction between the two is very important. In some cases snoring can be a precursor to sleep apnea but not always. Doctors cannot determine ahead of time which patients who snore will develop sleep apnea and which will not. Other factors such as gender, age, weight, smoking, drinking, etc. can play a role in the appearance of sleep apnea.

If you suspect that your snoring may be leading to sleep apnea it is essential to pay close attention (or for someone else to pay close attention) to both the pattern and sound of your snoring behavior. Is your snoring of the regular steady variety or is it loud, habitual, and occurs in bursts that alternate between regular calm breathing and/or gasping or choking for air? If you experience the latter then you are likely suffering from obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

If you definitely do not have sleep apnea and this fact has been confirmed by a doctor, and instead suffer from snoring then there are a variety of things you can try to combat your condition. First of all if excess weight is your problem then make a concentrated effort to lose pounds as best as you can. Make sure you do this in a healthy way however. Never put your health at risk by going on a diet that is dangerous. In order to lose the weight aim to eat less, eat healthier and exercise more. Too much weight is not good for your overall health but in regards to snoring, it can mean extra weight bearing down on the throat, which is not a good thing.

If you are a smoker, do away with the smoking habit. Smoking causes a “decreased lung capacity” and this can increase the likelihood of snoring taking place. If you have a tendency to sleep on your back change this and instead sleep on your left or right side or your stomach.

A surgical procedure known as laser-assisted uvulaplasty (LAUP) is useful for some snoring sufferers. However surgery should always be considered a last resort. If snoring is a major problem for you and/or disrupts your spouse or bed partner you should consult with your doctor or health care provider and find out how best to resolve the problem. For some people lifestyle changes are all that is needed to improve the situation whereas people with more serious, long-term snoring might need to take more drastic measures. Your doctor is there to help guide you and discuss the best plan of action for your particular situation.

Snoring is a very common problem and while some individuals are aware of their snoring and often wake themselves up, others find it necessary to be made aware of their condition by an other person who often finds him or herself awakened and frustrated by the loud snoring sounds.

I was reading a post on a narcolepsy forum about a lady who was treated for narcolepsy with homeopathy. She obviously had no understanding of homeopathy and unfortunately rated her homeopathic treatment as a failure. She swallowed a whole bottle of the pills and because she didn’t die from the overdose, she gave homeopathy the thumbs down.

She didn’t appear to be suicidal, so exactly why she swallowed the entire bottle of pills is hard to fathom. It is very sad to think that someone with such a debilitating disease as narcolepsy, would rather spend her entire life on crude drugs which only offer palliation, and propping up. Narcolepsy is rated as an incurable condition by the medical profession , the only option for the patient being prescription drugs.

Unfortunately this lady’s post about her opinion of homeopathy could perhaps deter others with this condition from seeking help from an homeopath.

Homeopathy is energy medicine, it doesn’t have the crude side effects of prescription drugs, that is the beauty of homeopathy. This lady took a whole bottle of her pills, and because she didn’t die, she claimed her homeopathic treatment to be nothing but placebo medicine. What she didn’t understand was that one pill, 20 pills or the whole bottle of pills taken at the same time adds up to one dose only.

However, if you take just one of those pills and place it in a glass of water and stir , and then sip from it throughout the day, you will be taking as many doses of the medicine as the number of sips you take from the glass.

Studies show that insomnia affects approximately 75 million people in the United States. Insomnia can present itself in a couple of different ways; each may require a different medication. The sleeplessness is generally classified into different categories, according to its period of consistent occurrence. Of these, chronic insomnia is the most serious type, which lasts consistently for a prolonged period of time, say one month or more.

However, it has to be considered as a disease, if its occurrence is frequent. Insomnia treatment is important because insomnia can lead to several complications in the physiological and psychological balance of a person. If you have existing medical conditions, or if you are currently taking prescription drugs, then consult your doctor before you begin a new insomnia-fighting treatment.

Insomnia can be a side effect of certain medications, so if you think a new prescription is contributing to your insomnia, consult your doctor immediately. Chronic:- You will have suffered for more than one month and maybe several months or even years. Chronic insomnia can be caused by long term illness, chronic pain, depression and old age.

Whenever there is change in routine you may experience symptoms of sleeplessness, shift work severely disrupts sleeping patterns and contributes to insomnia, and other ailments. A person suffering from insomnia feels tired with lowered energy level, flares up for nothing and can hardly concentrate on anything seriously.

Discussion with the patient and his family about sleep patterns can identify insomnia, but finding the root cause is a very complex exercise . If you suffer from insomnia, finding the cause is half or more of the battle. Periodic arm and leg movements during sleep causing the muscles to twitch excessively is one underlying cause of this sleep disorder.
